Grand opening of the ELFERCOASTER

With the ELFERCOASTER, one of the most modern rail toboggans run in Tyrol was opened on 8 July 2026 at the mountain station of the Elferbahnen in Neustift in the Stubai Valley. With a route length of around 1.3 kilometres and speeds of up to 40 km/h, the new attraction promises a varied mountain experience on the Elfer. The project was realised together with mainly regional partner companies from the Stubai Valley and the surrounding area. The ELFERCOASTER is a clear commitment to strengthening summer tourism in the Stubai Valley.

Adrenaline rush with panoramic views

Three roundabouts, numerous steep curves and speeds of up to 40 km/h: The ELFERCOASTER now makes the Elfer in Neustift a must-see for adventure seekers and active families. The new rail toboggan run extends over a total length of around 1.3 kilometres – around one kilometre of downhill course and around 350 metres of lift – and has a total of 43 toboggans, each of which can accommodate up to two people.

A special feature of the system is that it can be operated regardless of the weather and can therefore be used in any season if necessary. In addition to its popular hiking trails, paragliding launch sites and toboggan runs, the Elfer will be enriched by another highlight for guests and locals

Tyrol focuses on quality in year-round tourism

For Mario Gerber, Provincial Councillor for Tourism and Economic Affairs of the Province of Tyrol, the project is an excellent example of the state's tourism development strategy: "The ELFERCOASTER is a modern leisure facility that consistently advances our strategy of high-quality year-round tourism in Tyrol. Such projects are created when the region, business, tourism and politics pull together - and the Stubai Valley is an impressive example of this."

Strengthening for Neustift and the Stubai Valley

Andreas Gleirscher, mayor of the municipality of Neustift in the Stubai Valley, emphasizes the importance of the project for the community: "The ELFERCOASTER is a great enrichment for Neustift. It makes our local mountain even more attractive – for guests as well as for the people who live here – and strengthens regional value creation, from which many businesses in the valley benefit. I am particularly pleased that it has been possible to preserve the special identity of the Elfer and at the same time create a modern offer."

Adrian Siller, chairman of TVB Stubai Tirol and chairman of the supervisory board of the Elferbahnen, underlines the strategic dimension of the investment: "The ELFERCOASTER is an investment in the future of the Stubai Valley. We are convinced that investing in such projects will not only advance the Elfer, but the entire valley as a holiday destination. It is precisely such high-quality experience offers that are crucial in order to increase the length of stay, address new target groups and create additional added value for accommodation, gastronomy and many other businesses in the Stubai Valley."

From the drawing board to the rails – with a strong regional signature

Construction work started at the end of August 2025 and was completed on schedule in July 2026. The railway was realised by the Wiegand company together with mainly regional partners: from submission planning to construction coordination, construction management, surveying, ecological construction supervision, timber construction, electrical engineering, tin smithing work and floor coating.

Hans Glockengiesser, Managing Director of Elferbahnen, is proud of the result of a long process: "Behind the ELFERCOASTER are months of planning, technical precision and the commitment of many. On a route of around 1.3 kilometres, with three roundabouts and several steep curves, the toboggans accelerate to up to 40 km/h - a real experience. We are pleased to have one of the most modern facilities of its kind on the Elfer. It can be operated regardless of the weather and, if necessary, provides irrepressible driving fun at any time of the year.
